Abu-Ghazaleh Highlights Outstanding Achievements at the Fourth International Forum on Arab Technical Integration in Muscat and the Support of HH Taimur Bin As'ad Al Said

MUSCAT- Under the patronage of His Highness Taimur Bin As’ad Al Said, and with the attendance of more than 250 participants from 40 countries, the Arab States Research and Educational Network (ASREN) held recently the Fourth International Forum on Integrating Arab E-Infrastructure in a Global Environment in Muscat.

The event was chaired by HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, ASREN's chairman and witnessed the participation of Arab Ministers of Education and Ministers of Telecommunication, Ambassador of the European Union Commission, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, and representatives of international organizations and educational institutions in addition to others.

The Forum aims at expanding the effective participation of ASREN, integrating Arab e-infrastructures in global environment, enhancing the role of research and education societies in the Arab world, supporting sustainable researches and education network in the Arab region which are connected with other European, American, and regional networks all over the world. In addition, it aims at developing cooperation and coordination between Arab and non-Arab researchers, promoting joint scientific research projects that depend on the use of infrastructure between the countries, and developing e-applications and e-services for Arab research and education societies.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed the importance of the annual Forum as a scientific and technical platform for researchers, academics, and decision makers to maintain the sustainability of Arab e-infrastructure, integrate it with other similar e-infrastructures all over the world, and launch harmonized research services that provide computing, software, and information resources, among others, through projects supported by the EU including the Third Euro-Mediterranean Integration Project and Harmony between IT-Infrastructure and E- Infrastructure Project.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh announced several achievements including the operational exchange point for research and education in London and Fujairah to connect with regional research and education networks in Europe, America and East Asia as well as the international connection between Jordan and Europe financed by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization in addition to the admission of new partners in the Arab States Research and Education Network including the Somali, Iraqi and UAE networks as well as the current partners from Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Sudan. 

HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh also announced with pride, in implementation of the directions of His Highness Taimur, the establishment of a technical integration network with China and the eastern countries to connect them with the Arab States Research and Education Network as an extension to the connection with the European and American Network in coordination with the concerned parties including the Omani Research Council and communication service providers in the Sultanate of Oman and the Omani Broadband Company.
