Rainer Herpers

Dr. Rainer Herpers is a Full Professor in Computer Science at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Since 2001 he holds an Adjunct Faculty position at the Faculty of Graduate Studies at York University and since 2008 an Adjunct Faculty position at the Faculty of Computer Science at University of New Brunswick, both Canada. He received his Diploma degree in Computer Science from the Technical University Aachen (RWTH Aachen), in 1991 and Ph.D degree in Computer Science from the Faculty of Engineering of Kiel University, Germany in 1997 respectively.

Currently he serves as Founding Director of the Graduate Institute and as Co-Director of the Institute of Visual Computing at his home institution. His research interests span the following areas: Image Processing, Computer Vision and Computer Graphics with emphasis on Virtual Environments and Virtual Reality; Medical Informatics and Health Telematics. He has published over 100 articles in international conferences and journals and has served in numerous program committees. He acted so far as grantholder in two Tempus III and two EU/Canada projects funded by the European Commission. Currently he serves as grantholder and coordinator of the Tempus IV OSSCOM project with the full titel "Partnership with Enterprises towards Building Open Source Software Communities and Rejuvenation of Technical Education and Innovation ".

He is a member of the IEEE, VDI, GI, DAGM and GMDS.
