Zain Jordan Signs MoU with ASREN

AMMAN------- December 12, 2011------ Zain Jordan, part of the Zain Group, the leading mobile operator in the Middle East signed a memorandum of understanding with the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN), aiming to strengthen the cooperation and partnership between the two parties, where Zain Jordan will utilize its potential in the fiber-optic networks and cloud computing systems, in order to serve the objectives of the organization in making Jordan a major Hub.
The agreement states that both parties are committed to improving the potential cooperation for developing joint interconnectivity operations and services, also to encourage joint cooperation in connectivity to ASREN e-infrastructure with the objective of enhancing collaboration in research and education in the Arab regional and global context, as well as directing efforts towards establishing other forms of collaboration such as digital content, software applications and services, seminars, conferences, and cooperative research projects, including the exchange of relevant material, as well as the development of cooperative projects.
The memorandum was signed by ASREN Chairman HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh and on behalf of Zain Jordan, CEO Ahmad Hanandeh, on the sidelines of the First International Platform on Arab e-Infrastructure in a Global Environment, which was held in Amman.
On the other hand, EUROMED selected Zain to establish the optical-fiber cables link between the Jordanian Universities Network and EUROMED in London as a first phase, so that later on Zain Jordan will become the main hub for scientific research by linking networks of universities in the Arab countries together, as well as connecting them with the scientific research networks around the world.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh highlighted this cooperation with Zain Jordan which will contribute to the development of scientific research and businesses calling on the Arab private sector to join this effort in enhancing collaboration in research and education in the Arab regional and global context.

Commenting on the selection of Zain, Hanandeh said: “Zain was always keen to support the efforts seeking the development of the educational process as well as supporting the institutions which play a key role in shaping a bright future for Jordan.” He added that the ICT sector is responsible for contributing positively in developing the innovation potential of students at educational institutions, thus achieving social and economic development of this country. "
Noteworthy that Zain is a platinum sponsor of the First International Platform on Arab e-Infrastructure in a Global Environment, organized by ASREN and entitled "Together for Shaping the Future of Scientific Research and Education Networks."
