Evolution

The Arab region, home to 22 countries across Asia and Africa, with a young population of 360 million (50% under 25 years old), faces challenges in competitive strength and vitality. Focusing on education and innovation through enhanced research infrastructure could harness the energy of youth, providing more opportunities and potentially reversing brain drain due to high unemployment.

Challenges like funding limitations, inadequate educational resources, and insufficient ICT infrastructures exist. Governments are initiating reforms and infrastructure development to address these issues. Collaboration, foreign knowledge transfer, and a pan-Arab e-Infrastructure linked to global resources and tools can foster a technology-driven educational environment.

e-Infrastructure is an innovative resource for research and education, instrumental in analyzing, modeling, and visualizing datasets. High-performance networks connecting universities and research institutions play a critical role in research competitiveness, technological advancement, and societal welfare.

ASREN progresses alongside global e-Infrastructure and connectivity. It's embarked on interconnecting Arab researchers by launching its London PoP and plans for new PoPs in Lebanon, Egypt, and the Morocco region. Additionally, ASREN supports NREN development in various Arab countries.
