Lebanese Research and Education Network (LebREN)
The establishment of the Lebanese Research and Education Network (LebREN) was originally sought in 2011 by the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research - CNRS and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education - MEHE, in collaboration with and support from ASREN. The Ministry of Telecommunications - MOT has recently joined the efforts and is looking into feasible and efficient connectivity solutions between the universities and research centers as well as the international connectivity with the support of EUMEDCONNECT3. Three working groups have been formed: (1) Technical Committee that will develop technical specifications and operational requirements of the network, (2) Services Committee that will define the services and activities of the Network, and (3) Governance Committee that will recommend an "organization" and "ownership" model of the Network.
The current members of the network are: Lebanese University - American University of Beirut - Lebanese American University - Notre Dame University - Holy Spirit University of Kaslik - Saint Joseph University - University of Balamand - National Council for Scientific Research - Beirut Internet Exchange - and the Internet Society, Lebanon Chapter.
